In some ways December has been a very long month and in some ways it has just flown by. It’s time for one of my favorite monthly linkups posts, December Runfessions. The perfect time to get all of our running and fitness thoughts off of our minds.

  • Wow I sure did have a ton to get off of my chest today! Thanks for checking out my December Runfessions. Anyone tried the Adidas Boost shoe? Have you already figured out your 2018 race schedule?

December Runfessions

I Runfess…I have not done much running at all this past week while away with my family in Aruba. I had decided that I would use this week to let a few little aches and pains heal so that I would be ready to start my running fresh in January. So other than my little beach sprint the other day, I have been walking a ton and using the elliptical everyday. I also Runfess that it has not been as bad as I thought it would be. (Updated last night-I can’t wait to run on Sunday when I get home)

December Runfessions

I Runfess…I am not really sure which races that I want to sign up for yet in 2018. I know the Cherry Blossom 10 miler will be my priority the first quarter. I need to decide which tri races I would like to do. I am hoping to be strategic in my race planning this year.

I Runfess…I have not been swimming for over 3 months! I finally got into the pool in Aruba this week and realized that I am going to have a lot of catching up to do. I also remembered that I signed up for an indoor tri in 3 weeks. Thankfully it is a short 10 min indoor pool swim and very low key. January goals indeed!

last January’s Indoor Tri

I Runfess…I think I am still searching for the perfect running shoe. I have been liking the Mizuno Wave Rider 21 the past few months but not sure if it is the shoe for longer distances. I am hearing a lot about the Adidas Boost shoe. Maybe I should give that a go?

I sure do have a lot to #Runfess Today how about you? #runchat #runnerprobs #motherrunner

I Runfess…As much fun and relaxing as vacations are, I am looking forward to getting home and getting back on track with my eating and exercise program. I am signed up for Laura’s Fit & Fueled nutrition course starting next week and I am interested to soak up any bits of helpful wisdom she may have for me. I am also signed up for Amanda Tress’ program of intermittent fasting. Something I said I would never do. More on that to come!

Wow I sure did have a ton to get off of my chest today! Thanks for checking out my December Runfessions. Anyone tried the Adidas Boost shoe? Have you already figured out your 2018 race schedule?

Hope you are having a good vacation! I still have no idea what races I will do in 2018. I have a feeling I’ll be doing last minute ones once again or not really racing much, but we’ll see!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/29/2017 at 12:52 pm

I am sure I will do some last minute ones as well!

I do like those Mizuno Wave Riders–I’m with you on the long runs, tho. Do I still run in Asics Gel Nimbus for that?

Enjoy the rest of your week and don’t sweat the break from running. We’ll all be back at it next week!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/29/2017 at 12:53 pm

I don’t know about the shoes! I just ordered the Adidas so I will let you know-I hear good things about them for PF. Yes we will all be back at it full force next week for sure 🙂

I’ll be interested to hear how those programs go. Hope you are having an awesome time in Aruba.

    • Deborah Brooks says

I will let you know how the eating goes for sure. Yes I am enjoying lots of relaxing time down here. It’s going to be hard to come back tomorrow

I am signed up for 2 halfs in 2018 but that’s it so far. I’d like to do another (I runfess I’d love to do a couple more, but probably not gonna happen) but am undecided about where. Or when.

I think it’s a good thing you’re taking a running break. Enjoy that sunshine cause in the real word back home it’s brutal right now!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/29/2017 at 12:54 pm

It sure is a lot colder than usual by us and we are heading home tomorrow. Will be a shock for sure

I am so ready for Laura’s program! I’m still enjoying holiday treats but really am only tempted by the peppermint bark at this point. Jealous of your week in Aruba!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/29/2017 at 12:55 pm

I am really looking forward to hearing her thoughts on things. Seems to work really well for her. I am eating way off my usual plan this week!

I totally agree with you about finding the perfect running sneaker. The one I have is OK, but I’m not in love with it. Ugh, I wish companies wouldn’t change their sneakers so much!
I hope that you’re having an awesome vacation!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/29/2017 at 12:56 pm

I just ordered the Adidas so I will let you know how they go for me. I am enjoying my week here and it’s going to be tough going home tomorrow

I never heard of an indoor tri. That should be interesting!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/29/2017 at 12:59 pm

They are super low key and fun. A great opportunity to “tri” out all 3 sports at once. Lifetime fitness does them all around the country if you have one near you check it out

  8. Maureen @ Maureen Gets Real says

    12/29/2017 at 8:57 am

So far I only have on race on my calendar for 2018 – a half marathon in April. I’m sure I’ll add more but that’s it for now. I hope you had/are having a wonderful time in Aruba!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/29/2017 at 1:15 pm

We are having a great time and it’s going to be tough heading home tomorrow

  9. Karen Bayne says

Taking a break and doing lots of low impact is a good thing 🙂 We all need it every so often.
I have tried the Adidas Boost, but I have such finicky feet I am not good reviewer lol I wear inserts and have capsilituis. They are nice and padded, and very soft and light.
I’m sure you will be fine for your TRI! I am doing Laura’s group too:)

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/29/2017 at 1:17 pm

I am always looking for the perfect shoe w great padding. I will see you in Laura’s group looking forward to it

It sounds like you’ve had a fantastic week in Aruba! I’ve loved following along on your trip on Instagram.

    • Deborah Brooks says

I’m already committed to three races in 2018 which is really unusual for me. I don’t usually have a race schedule – I just sign up for one at a time or none.

I really like the Brooks Ghost lately. The toe box is nice and wide. There’s enough cushion but it isn’t heavy. I haven’t tried Mizuno before.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/29/2017 at 1:19 pm

I have not tried the Brooks ghost yet but I do hear good things. Thanks for the feedback!

  12. Lesley says

    12/29/2017 at 11:28 am

Good luck with the shoe search. I only have one race on my calendar for 2018, but that’s how I usually roll. I want to make sure I have a good training cycle and enjoy the race before I start thinking about other races.

I used to wear Mizuno and recently switched to New Balance…maybe you should try them out? https://www.newbalance.com/pd/880v7/W880-V7.html#color=Vivid Ozone Blue_with_Lime Glo_and_Pigment
I have super narrow feet and high arches – these have been great for me!
    Happy New Year!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/29/2017 at 1:27 pm

Thanks for the shoe info I will check them out too!

  16. Kimberly Hatting says

    12/29/2017 at 1:21 pm

Your vacay has looked so serene and beautiful…and warm. It’s probably 100-degrees warmer where you are in comparison to the Artic conditions in Iowa LOL I’ve heard such great things about the Mizuno Wave Sky, but (most unfortunately) my over-pronating feet would give them a big thumbs-down. My stability-craving feet are high-maintenance UGH. Enjoy your last glimpse of that awesome Aruba setting 😉

    • Kimberly Hatting says

      12/29/2017 at 1:23 pm

oops…I meant Mizunos Wave Riders….(my bad)

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/29/2017 at 1:30 pm

I am not sure what the right shoe is at this point! I did order the Adidas so we shall see. It is about 80 degrees warmer here and tomorrow will be a tough one when we step off the plane. It’s not usually this cold in DC but brrr it’s going to be rough

  17. Zenaida Arroyo says

    12/29/2017 at 2:18 pm

I am a HUGE fan of the Brooks Launch! I am jealous of your vacation in Aruba.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/29/2017 at 4:36 pm

I have not tried Brooks in a long time so thanks for the feedback. It is rather warm and sunny here and I am going to have a tough return home tomorrow for sure

  18. Rachel says

I runfess I have been SO JEALOUS of your vaca pics!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/29/2017 at 5:46 pm

It is going to be a tough entry back into the cold temps tomorrow for sure

  19. Michelle @ Running with Attitude says

    12/29/2017 at 5:07 pm

I’ve been trying to figure out my long run shoe too – curious to see what you think of the Addidas. I’m really looking forward to Laura’s program – it will be a great jumpstart to the new year.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/29/2017 at 5:46 pm

I will keep you posted on the shoes for sure. See you in the FB group next week

  20. Teresa says

    12/29/2017 at 9:02 pm

I’m always in search of the perfect running shoe …does it even exist??? My goal for 2018 is to simply finish this marathon standing! I’ll make any other goals accordingly. Lol

An indoor tri sounds like the perfect way for a newbie, such as me, to get a tri under their belt. I’ll have to check into that and see if there are any around here.

Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/30/2017 at 8:30 am

I have no doubt you are more than ready for your marathon! It’s really exciting can’t wait to read all about it

  21. Cl says

    12/29/2017 at 9:34 pm

Aruba sounds lovely! Enjoy soaking up all the sunshine and rest before coming back to reality. 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/30/2017 at 8:30 am

I know it’s going to be a tough re-entry today

  22. Ana says

    12/29/2017 at 10:25 pm

It’s too cold up here… stay in Aruba, it looks a lot nicer there than here!!

Good luck with your shoe search!!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/30/2017 at 8:31 am

Ha I wish I could stay here! Coming home tonight

  23. Debbie says

    12/29/2017 at 11:31 pm

I’ve been running in the Wave Rider for about 5 years and it works for me at all distances. I feel like I’ve had less injuries since I switches from a more supportive to a more cushioned shoe.

PS So jealous of your Aruba photos. 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/30/2017 at 8:31 am

I think it’s time for me to switch out of the supportive shoes as well and go more cushioned. On my search for the perfect shoe!

  24. Atim at EffiFit says

    12/30/2017 at 11:15 am

I think you ended the year the right way with a beach vacation to Aruba!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/31/2017 at 3:10 pm

      I would have to agree!

  25. Chelsea says

    12/30/2017 at 11:39 am

I completely understand about your wanting to get back to your routine after vacation! It’s always AMAZING to get away but it’s also refreshing to look forward to getting back on track when you get home! Hope you’ve had an amazing week though!! That water looks GORGEOUS!!! Good luck with your tri! I bet you’ll do awesome!! I would love to add a tri to my goal list for 2018!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/31/2017 at 3:11 pm

It always feels good to come home and back to a routine for me. I hope you find a way to add a tri to your schedule too this year. They are fun

  26. Chrissy @ Snacking in Sneakers says

    12/30/2017 at 2:13 pm

I’m right there with you on the swimming – I don’t think I’ve been in the pool since September. I need to work on my scheduling a bit to make sure I can fit in at least once swim a week this winter.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/31/2017 at 3:13 pm

Yes I am determined to get my swims back in this week!

  27. The Accidental Marathoner says

    12/30/2017 at 5:31 pm

Oh, to be in Aruba right now! It is SOOO brutally cold here in Chicago! I’m jealous! I have a few races planned for next year and am still researching a few more before the boost in prices after the 1st of the year.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/31/2017 at 3:13 pm

It was a hard return last night to the cold temps!

  28. Marcia says

    12/30/2017 at 9:09 pm

I hope you like the Boost! I had some a couple of years ago and liked them. Hope you’re enjoying the rest of your vacay. Aruba is divine!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/31/2017 at 3:14 pm

I really did enjoy the warm temps and relaxation. Enjoy the rest of your vacation too!

  29. vicki says

    12/31/2017 at 11:04 am

I haven’t tried the adidas shoe… good luck finding your long run shoe. I’ve been experimenting with IF a little this past month.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/31/2017 at 3:15 pm

I am not sure there is a perfect shoe!

  30. Toni says

    12/31/2017 at 4:30 pm

Its always good to give your body a rest and well when relaxing in Aruba, why not. If you find a good shoe let me know, I am struggling with my sneakers too, hoping to find a good one soon.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/01/2018 at 8:48 am

I will keep you posted on the shoe quest! happy new year

  31. Susie @ Mile High Dreamers says

    12/31/2017 at 7:13 pm

Aruba looks like it was BEAUTIFUL! And I think a vacation is the perfect time to let your body have some R&R. It also helps you come back ready to jump back to full force!
I LOVE the Adidas Energy Boost shoe for running. It’s flexible on top so nothing gets smooshed, it’s light, it’s definitely got a ‘spring’ to it, and it’s supportive. I switched to those after Brooks started changing the shoe I’d used for years, and fell in love. You should definitely give it a try!
    Happy New Year!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/01/2018 at 8:48 am

Oh good I cannot wait to try them out thanks! Happy new year
