Happy Friday! I’m linking up again with the fabulous ladies of the DC Trifecta Cynthia, Mar and Courtney

DC_linkup

I absolutely love summer so this was a fun, easy post for me to write today. Here are some of my favorite things right now.

1. Running and biking outside. After the winter we had this year, I’m loving being outside as often as possible. I know lots of people think of summer running like this:

IMG_2221

I actually love it! I love feeling free with less clothing & love the sun on my back. Yes it is challenging running through humidity and heat but I feel pretty accomplished and bad ass after a long sweaty run. I love biking in the summer-I may not be a fast runner but I feel fast when I fly downhill on my bike. I get a definite adrenaline rush on a good bike ride. Plus it’s a lot easier to do a 2 hour bike ride than a 2 hour run.

I love this feeling!

2. My vegetable spiralizer and water infuser

These are my 2 favorite gadgets this summer. There is no end to the combinations you can make with the spiralizer and it’s easy to go raw with great summer veggies. I’m addicted to the lemon, cucumber and orange infused water. So easy to make and satisfying to drink.

3. Mac Lip Gloss– I’m a little addicted to Mac Lip gloss and Lip Glass. Ok a Mother Runner has to look good for all of those selfies right?! They last forever in great subtle colors. I’ve been known to sport some on a run too.

4. Summer Fruit- I could live off of watermelon and cantaloupe all summer. It’s so sweet and juicy and the perfect post workout snack.

5. Sleeping in- Where we live, the High Schools start at the ungodly hour of 7:15 am so that means early wake ups for me and my teens most of the year. None of us get enough sleep. I am reveling in my slightly later wake ups this summer. What a difference an extra hour of sleep makes. I am much happier!

What are your Summer Faves? Are you sleeping in?

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

I love you picks, except for the melons! As much as I’ve tried, I just can’t learn to like the taste of any melon. It really annoys me because they look so good and refreshing!

I’ve been known to sport a little lipstick or gloss on my runs, too. I add it on top of my thick layer of sunscreen on my lips so I don’t lick it off, or taste the nasty taste of the sunscreen. It works like a charm and I don’t look like a zombie when I’m running! 🙂

I have to agree that I prefer summer running to winter running. I had a hard time with breathing in the cold, dry air. Of course, I had just started running seriously at the point so it was probably compounded by being new to running. I have to look for one of those water infusers, I love cucumber water!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/19/2014 at 7:28 am

The winter running hurts my chest too sometimes. The water infusers are great!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/20/2014 at 1:53 pm

It does get harder as we get older to sleep in doesn’t it? I’m actually kind of jealous when my kids do it.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/20/2014 at 1:54 pm

It does make me a little slower but I feel like it’s good training. Hopefully when fall comes I will run faster. 🙂

Thanks for the reminder that running outside is awesome! I agree that there’s a huge sense of accomplishment on those hot & humid runs. I’ve just started biking again & forgot how nice it is to bike around. As hot as it may be, there is always a nice breeze on the downhills. And the fruit–YES!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/21/2014 at 12:18 pm

I do love biking down the hills and feeling the wind in my face. Sometimes I am scared to death but in a good way! LOL
