Get Outside and Play-Summer Activities To Enjoy

  • Share
  • Tweet

I love being outside all year long really but in the summer time it just feels even more amazing to get outside and play doesn’t it? I always have a long list of activities that I hope to do over the summer in addition to my normal swimming, biking and running. This summer I am hoping to fit them all in and Get Outside And Play a little more. Here are my top 5.

Get Outside And Play

Yoga In The Park

One of the big yoga chains does an outdoor free yoga class on Thursday nights. I’ve been saying that I am going to go and I have not gone yet. Would love to get my kids to come along sometime and then do dinner together.

Farmer’s Markets

I love strolling through a great Farmer’s Market and finding inspiration for new recipes. Since we had such a warm winter, all the fruits and veggies are so delicious this summer. I am going to make a point to visit them more often and see what new foods I can try so I can make yummy salads like this one.

SUP

I had so much fun on the SUP last winter in Aruba. I know there are a few places where I can rent them and go play in The Potomac and have no idea why I don’t do it. On the list for this summer.

Getting in a little cross training. The water is so smooth and clear so no epic falls off the board #SUP #beachlife #Aruba #familyvacation #enjoyinglife

Adventure Runs

Our local Road Runner Sports hosts monthly Adventure Runs in the spring and summer. It’s basically a big scavenger hunt around town where you earn raffle tickets for prizes like shoes and gear. Our MRTT group usually has a huge turnout but I have not been able to make it to one in a while. Hopefully next month!

Relax by the Pool

Every mother runner needs to remember to take some time off to relax by the pool and chill. I am not good at sitting still for long but I’ve got a whole list of books to read and I plan on getting through them.

Get outside and play

What are your favorite summer activities? What should I add to my Get Outside And Play list?

Coco and I Hope to see you tomorrow for the Ultimate Coffee Date Linkup. Today I am linking up with the Friday Five join us.

I used to go to outdoor yoga when I lived near the Baltimore harbor. It was right on the water on Sunday mornings and all I had to do was walk across the street. Plus it was free! Now its too out of the way to make the trip down there.

I enjoy going to the Farmer’s Market. I need to go more often! I also love reading by the pool or at the beach. I’m not much into swimming, but I like relaxing and watching my kids swim. SUP looks so fun. I need to put that on my list!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/02/2017 at 7:15 am

Yes so much to do so little time!

I am so happy it’s finally warmed up! Now we need the lakes to warm up so I can SUP. I also need to take this pup out walking. She’s getting a little too skittish being inside all the time.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/02/2017 at 7:19 am

I bet it takes a long time for the lakes to warm up! I hate cold water

Yoga in the part sounds so fun! I keep wanting to do yoga outside, but our backyard is riddled with ants. 🙁

And I so wish there was a pool back there — I love to swim & I’m really good at sitting still! Especially by a pool.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/02/2017 at 7:20 am

The outdoor yoga does sound good doesn’t it?

  5. Kimberly says

I love Farmer’s Markets! They might be my favorite part about the summer. One of the local parks here offers fitness classes (yoga, zumba, boot camp) outside during the summer so I may take advantage of some of those classes this summer.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/02/2017 at 7:20 am

That would be fun to do a bunch of different classes outside

  6. Coco says

Is dining al fresco in there somewhere? coffee on the deck? those are my favorite things this time of year!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/02/2017 at 7:21 am

Yes I do enjoy eating out on our deck as well (minus the mosquitos 🙂 )

Yes to all these activities! I tried SUP last summer at my local lake and I can’t wait to try it again. I also did a SUP yoga class, which ended up being really fun lol, I really took to the SUP lifestyle. Those scavenger hunt style runs sound fun, I need to check for one around me. Have a great weekend!

    • Deborah Brooks says

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/02/2017 at 11:00 am

That sounds like a fantastic idea!

  11. Darlene says

There never seems to be enough time. Free yoga? That would be awesome. I spend most of the summer trying to fit in running, tennis and boating.

I also want to try SUP again and maybe kayaking.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/02/2017 at 11:00 am

It’s hard to fit in all the fun summer activities around

  12. The Accidental Marathoner says

    06/02/2017 at 9:14 am

All of these things sound like such wonderful fun! And that salad looks amazing! I, too, like all things outdoors. We have a nice big deck and a pool in our yard, and I love lounging out there all summer long!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/02/2017 at 11:02 am

This is our first year with our own pool and so far so good over here!

  13. Lesley says

    06/02/2017 at 9:43 am

Boulder has a farmer’s market, and I’ve been told mid-summer is when there are so many choices. There wasn’t much last weekend, all the same vegetables, but there was a bread stand I could smell all the way down the line.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/02/2017 at 11:03 am

Oh that bread stand would do me in!

  14. Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says

    06/02/2017 at 10:17 am

Those Adventure Runs sound fun! I wish our running group had one of those. Who doesn’t love to win prizes?

    • Deborah Brooks says

    • Deborah Brooks says

  18. Mary Long says

Yard Sales/Flee Markets for some treasure hunting is fun.. My list would not be complete without a long hike to nowhere.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/02/2017 at 2:02 pm

Well hiking sounds fun too perhaps I can fit one of those in too!

  19. Gina says

  21. Summer says

I have done yoga in the park before, I love it, you should definitely give it a try. I like to go backpacking in the summer and rollerblading with my daughter.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/02/2017 at 7:58 pm

I have not gone roller blading in years that does sound fun too

  22. Kimberly Hatting says

    06/02/2017 at 6:39 pm

I love summer, also! Have you ever done a trail race, or even a trail run? You gotta be cautious of bugs, but often times there’s some shade cover so the temps are manageable.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/02/2017 at 7:59 pm

So I am such a klutz-twice I’ve fallen while doing a trail run and sprained my ankle once. I think they are not for me sadly

  23. Teresa says

    06/02/2017 at 7:03 pm

Oh, that Yoga in the park looks like fun! And who doesn’t love a good Farmer’s Market??

I wished there was a place near me that rented SUPs….there’s plenty of places to use them but no place that rents them and I’m not ready to invest in one yet. I’m looking forward to more time in my kayak this summer!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/02/2017 at 7:59 pm

The kayak sounds nice too. I think they rent them down on the Potomac river as well. I will add that to my list.

  24. Rachel says

    06/02/2017 at 8:22 pm

I can’t WAIT to get to the pool this summer. And I would also love to try SUP since I’ve never done it. It looks like so much fun!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/02/2017 at 8:38 pm

Our pool is finally warm enough to go into this summer plan on spending a lot of time in it myself. Have a great weekend
