Liebster Award

I am fairly new to blogging and was so nervous to get started. I wondered if anyone would care what I had to say or bother to take the time to read any of my posts. Feelings I am sure all of you have had at one point or another. As most of you know it takes lots of time and effort to create each and every blog post. It’s a great feeling to know that people are enjoying reading your posts.

I am feeling like I am starting to find my voice and I am more comfortable writing and posting my thoughts. I’m beginning to form relationships with other bloggers, especially those in the Wash Dc area, and I truly enjoy reading so many of your blogs.

liebster-award-L-QSGhF9

I was so surprised and honored when I was nominated for a “Liebster Award” by two of my friends. Michele at http://apaceofbalance.blogspot.com/ and Briana at http://matmilesmedals.com/

What is a “Liebster Award” you ask?

It’s an online award given by bloggers to fellow bloggers as a “high five” and aims to help grow the following of some newer blogs. It’s such a nice way for more established bloggers to help out us newbies.

There are some criteria for The Liebster Award:

1. You must link back to the person who nominated you
2. You must answer the 10 Liebster questions given to you by the nominee before you.
3. You must pick 10 bloggers to be nominated for the award
4. You must create 10 questions for your nominees
5. You must go to their blogs and notify the nominees
I have 10 questions here from Michele and Briana to answer to allow my readers to get to know me a little better. So here goes:
1. Why do you blog?
After reading other blogs for a while I wanted to contribute to the information out there. After “running” our Mom’s Run This Town FB site for a over a year now, I felt as though I was already creating content and I was ready to branch out. I love interacting with other fitness and health bloggers. They are so creative and inspirational. I truly enjoy reading about their transformations, their races, their kids, their dreams etc. Maybe my background as a psychotherapist forces me to crave talking to people all day. I love to express my fashion style while exercising as well.
2. What surprises you about blogging?
I was surprised by how comfortable I was about sharing my feelings and thoughts with strangers. Writing was never a strong point of mine in school but now that I am doing it for myself, I love it! I’m surprised by what a small world it is and how easy it is to find connections with other bloggers. I’ve already become friends with some of the people I’ve met blogging-how cool is that?
3. Compression socks or no compression socks?
Compressions socks for sure! I tend to get shin splints when I’m training for longer runs plus I like the extra support.
4. If you won 2 first class tickets to anywhere in the world where would you go and with whom?
Ok that’s an easy one! I’m dying to go to Bora Bora with my husband and stay in one of those little huts on the water. I saw it on a tv show and it looks amazing. I see myself diving off the side, going for a little swim then basking in the sun.
I really need to go here!
I really need to go here!
5. What’s your favorite childhood memory?
I was fortunate enough to spend my summers at sleep away camp in Pennsylvania for a number of years. I have so many great memories of fun summers spent there. My kids now go to sleep over camp as well and they love it too.
6. What is your fitness strength?
I’m not afraid to try something new. I love to challenge myself with new distances in running or new types of exercise. I love kickboxing too! I’ve stopped working out and eating to be thin instead, I am working to be a strong and athletic role model for my kids.
7. What 3 songs describe you right now?
Ah that’s a hard one too! I really liked “Titanium” while I was recovering from my stress fracture recently. I love silly pop songs like “Best day of my life” and then there is the classic “Dancing with myself”.
8. What is number one on your fitness bucket list?
I am super excited (and very scared) to be running the Ragnar DC this September with my Moms Run This Town friends.
WashingtonDC-Training
9. What are you surprisingly bad at?
I’m so bad at yoga but I really love it! Sometimes I’m in a down dog and everyone else is in Warrior 2! And I don’t care! I really have enjoyed adding it into my routine.
10. If money was no object what would you be doing now?
Hmm…I guess sitting on a beach somewhere blogging about it of course!
Thanks for taking the time to read a little about me. I feel like a legit blogger now! I’m really looking forward to interacting with all of my new “friends” and soaking up all the info out there.
I am now nominating these 10 blogs for their own Liebster Awards:
1. Kim Runs  http://kimruns.blogspot.com/
2. Lexie Loves to Run  http://blog.lexielovestorun.com/
3. Coco’s Got the Runs  http://coletharuns.blogspot.com/
4. Will Run for a Medal   http://willrunforamedal.blogspot.com/
5. Stedge Racing  http://www.stedgeracing.com/
6. Runfor-cupcakes  http://runfor-cupcakes.com/
7. City streets & Veggie eats  http://citystreetsveggieeats.wordpress.com/
8. dietician Jess  http://dietitianjess.weebly.com/
9. Mini me Wannabe  http://www.minimewannabe.com/
10. The Silvah Lining  http://thesilvahlining.wordpress.com/
Congratulations ladies! Please take a look at the “Liebster Award” rules above. Can’t wait to see the answers to these questions:
1. What do you like about blogging?
2. What are you surprised about?
3. What is one really interesting thing about you?
4. What is your favorite type of exercise?
5. Does your family embrace your fit lifestyle?
6. What’s your dream vacation?
7. What race is on your bucket list?
8. What’s your favorite “cheat” meal
9. Do you belong to a run or fitness club?
10. How will your life be different in 5 years?
Coming Friday Coffee Date link up-Stay tuned!
What is a Liebster Award, you ask? Good question. Google says it’s an online award given by bloggers to other bloggers with the goal of helping promote small, up and coming blogs, spreading the love, and promoting world peace (I may have added that last bit). The award has a few simple rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you, and post a link to their blog on your blog
  2. Answer 11 questions the nominating blogger asked you
  3. Provide 11 random facts about yourself.
  4. Nominate 5 – 11 small blogs that you feel deserve the award, and let them know
  5. Create a new list of questions for the nominees to answer

I love reading Q&As like this.
I’m also surprised by how supportive the blogging community is! I didn’t think people would be interested in my little blog but I’ve made a lot of friends.
The Ragnar race sounds interesting – I can’t wait to read about your training!

Deborah! I loved all of your answers! Ohhhh…Bora Bora is on my list too. I don’t think I’d ever come back though, lol. I was definitely nervous to start sharing my blog to the world. But I came across some of the mutual blogging friends we have and it has been a wonderful experience. I like the small group I have come to know and I look forward to connecting with you all in the future.

I would love to run a Ragnar race one day- they sound like SO much fun (plus what a great accomplishment, right? )! I’m a huge fan of compression sleeves and compression socks. The few times that I run without sleeves, I’m shocked to feel how different it actually is!

I am really excited for Ragnar and kind of scared at the same time. I think it will be a great experience. Thanks for stopping by for coffee.

Ohhh Bora Bora- that is on my bucket list. We almost went there for our 10th anniversary but we didn’t have enough time off work to enjoy it. Most of the time off would have been traveling. That’s no fun!
Good luck on your Ragnar training!
