May Runfessions I’ve got a few…

Wow this month kind of flew by for me despite the fact that I often did not know what day it was. We’ve come to last week of the month again. Time to bear at it all with our Runfessions. I have a lot to Runfess and Thanks to Marcia for hosting.

May Runfessions

I Runfess…

These last 2 weeks have been a struggle running wise. Honestly, it feels like a chore right now and i am having a hard time finding my mojo to get out there on my own. I always knew that the social part of running was a huge reason why I loved running. I am hoping that we are able to get out in small groups by the end of June. Since I have always cycled and strength trained on my own, that does not feel different. In fact, I am enjoying it much more than I ever have.

I Runfess…

Although I 100% believe in the importance of rest days, I admit I have not taken one in weeks. Exercising everyday has been keeping me sane through all of this. My body feels tired from all the above strength training and cycling. I have been here before and I know how important it is to let my body have a rest day. I pledge to schedule some of those this weekend. Hold me to it!

I Runfess…

We are entering phase 1 of reopening today and I am a little nervous about it. I am not sure how we go back to some sort of normalcy but I crave the normalcy. We are heading out to a restaurant tonight that is doing a tailgate type of thing. We are assigned a certain spot in the parking lot with a covered tent. Should be an interesting experience. I guess I will have to wear real clothes too! I am excited to get out the house and eat at a restaurant again (even if it is in a parking lot). Stay tuned for details about that. Not quite ready to hit the hair or nail salon although I sure need to.

What is the first thing you did (or will do) when restrictions are lifted for you?

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

I really hope you can go running with your tribe soon.
On Wednesday our government announced that we will be able to gather in groups of 30 as of mid-June.
Not that I want to do that but it’s comforting to know that things are becoming more normal again.
Let us know how the restaurant experience went!

Yes that will be nice to have things moving more back to normal. I will let you know how the dinner goes!

I’m having lots of DOMS this week which tells me that I need to dial it back and recover. I’m still going to run this weekend but I’m going to drop my mileage a bit.

We’re entering phase 3, for what it’s worth. I’m still mostly staying home. I did venture out to Target and Home Depot this week, tho!

That is a big step! I am not quite there yet

I’m with you on being a little nervous when things open up. Not because I don’t think it’s the right thing, but I don’t necessarily trust others to follow all the guidelines and rules set out by leadership. This weekend Chicago is entering phase 2 or phase 3 (honestly I forget haha) but it means I can get an eyebrow wax so I won’t complain. Just going to wear my mask like always.

    Enjoy your tailgate dinner tonight!

Yes that’s how I feel about other people they make me nervous!

I was nodding my head for all of your runfessions 🙂 I also haven’t taken a rest day in a long time. Part of me is like “what do you need to rest from?” lol. I literally workout in the morning and then sit at my desk at work for hours. Sometimes I get in an afternoon walk when my schedule allows, but other than that, I’m pretty sedentary.

We entered phase 1 last week and phase 2 is coming on June 20. I haven’t changed anything about my routine even though restaurants are open for outdoor dining only. Can’t wait to hear about your dining experience tonight – that actually sounds really, really cool! And a perfect way to ensure social distancing.

I am a little nervous about it so we shall see! I know I need a rest day but…

Your tailgate dinner extravaganza sounds fun! We finally have decent weather in the forecast for several days… I have more weeding to do so I’ll be awkward #gardensquatting plenty.

I’m not sure I’m going to do much different even with restrictions lifted.

If I had your pool, I’d have no problems relaxing in/by that!

I would love to be waited on, but I do think that would make me nervous, too. Looking forward to hearing about your experience!

I will let you know how it goes!

That outdoor dining experience sounds like a lot of fun.the new normal, right? Our region of the state has not begun to open yet. Next Friday is the date we have been given and even then, restaurants can only do take out and delivery. Groups of up to 10 can gather, though, so some friends of ours have already made a plan to get together.

I know what you mean about not taking a rest day. Exercise of some sort keeps me sane and I am reluctant to miss even one day.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/29/2020 at 4:28 pm

Exactly but I know that I need a rest day sometimes

I hope you enjoy some rest this weekend! We’re in phase 3 but I think the phases mean different things in different areas. There will be outdoor restaurant service and I think we can gather (masked) in groups under 10, so not that big of a deal. Thanks for runfessing!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/29/2020 at 4:28 pm

Yes we start outdoor restaurant service today so we will see how that goes. Still a little nervous!

Even though we’ve picked up carry-out a few times during the last couple of months, I’m not sure I’m ready to eat at a restaurant, even outside. I’m also putting off my salon appointments for a while longer. I just want to be able to go visit my mom and I know that’s not going to be safe for a while. 🙁

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/29/2020 at 4:29 pm

I am definitely not ready to go back to the salon yet. I am going to wait a few weeks

I think the first thing I did was go to the pet store? We also went out to dinner. Just once. I don’t know if I liked the experience enough to go again any time soon. I hope the opening goes smoothly for you.

That tailgate at the restaurant sounds fun and interesting. I’m like you -craving normalcy but also kind of scared about it.

      Exactly!

Enjoy your night out! My state slowly opened through May and while staying at home is still strongly encouraged it’s nice to have the option to go out in the real world. My first “real” trip out was to go to my local running store for new shoes. Get yourself a rest day so that you’ll be fresh when group running starts again!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/30/2020 at 8:53 am

That is exactly the plan! thanks

Assigned parking spot sounds wonderful, even quarantine aside. So much less wasted time trying to find one. I’m glad you’ve been able to continue with strength and cycling even though running isn’t working for you right now.

I will have sushi as soon as that restaurant opens, and a pedicure when those do. I’m slightly concerned about social distancing in my sushi restaurant since you can’t eat with a mask, but I have no concerns about a pedicure. I think that’s because it’s less face to face contact even if chairs aren’t six feet apart.
Hope you’re able to be “with” your friends sooner rather than later.

It’s odd – June 8 is Phase 1 for us and I think that was more or less when Va was shutdown until when we first Zoomed. Seemed crazy then, but maybe a little early now for me personally.

    Hugs

Yes Virginia moved up a week so we are in phase 1. WE are obviously much more spaced out than you are in the city. I am still pretty nervous. I scheduled a hair appointment for the end of June to give them a few weeks to get things into place. Things that should not have to be stressful!

  15. Cari says

    05/31/2020 at 9:21 pm

Yes, all about giving people the time to get settled. I’m usually fine with being a guinea pig, but not here. Take things at your own pace. It’s all we can do through this as I think as we navigate new boundaries
