Memorial Day Must Haves

This weekend marks the official start to summer-woo hoo! Even if the weather doesn’t cooperate fully, I will still be in full Memorial Day summer mode this weekend. That means I need to have all the right supplies and I am pretty sure I’ve found them. Sure I will still be biking, swimming and running but I will also be doing some relaxing with my family. Here a just a few of my Memorial Day Must Haves.

Memorial Day Must Haves

Bathing Suit & Sunscreen

I found this super cute bra sized, underwire top at Athleta. I like that the top will (hopefully) stay in place if I decide to jump in and swim a few laps or throw the football around with my son. They are currently on sale for 20% off. Don’t forget the sunscreen! My new fave is Supergoop. I usually have to order it from Amazon and I love the tote with all the essentials.

Beverages

Of course I am partial to my own Blueberry Iced Tea Spritzer which will keep you hydrated no matter what kind of fun you are up to this weekend. The frozen blueberry ice cubes are a game changer-just saying.

Burgers

This is the weekend for grilling and no BBQ would be complete without burgers and beans. I am planning on my making one of my favorite veggie burger creations. I will most likely be whipping up a batch of these Spinach, Eggplant and white bean burgers.

Beans

Whichever type of burger you have at your BBQ make sure to pair them with a tasty baked bean side. The subtle taste of bourbon made these Vegan Bourbon Baked Beans a real winner last summer.

Books

I love summer reading! Right now I am diving into this fun legal thriller and hope to finish it by this weekend. Everyone loves a good mystery. Find it here.

Memorial Day Must Haves

I am set for a relaxing and fun filled Memorial Day weekend with my family. Now if only I could make our weather forecast a little better!

Tell me: What’s on tap this weekend? Reading any good books? What are you cooking up this weekend?

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

I’m not a huge lover of the summer (I hate the heat), but I LOVE grilling season and all the yummy drinks. I’m very much looking forward to a burger and baked beans this weekend!

I don’t like running in extreme heat but I do love sunny days. Hope you have a fun weekend

I really want one of those cookies from the picture! And yes to sunscreen! Save your skin, people!

I am trying to get more vigilant at sunscreen more but I can do better. I have wrinkles!

That reminds me…I never did make those bean burgers! I recognize the recipe from an earlier post…I need to make that a priority! My big weekend plans include a 10-mile run (not sure what day it will happen because the weather looks a bit damp…). And, we’re gonna finally get our mudroom organized… Have a great weekend!

The weather has not been my friend lately either hopefully we both have a nice sunny few days

No grilling on Memorial Day unless the forecasters are seriously wrong. Which has been known to happen!

I’m just powering through trying to get ready for my racecation. And shhhh! Don’t tell Mr. Judy, but having him around on Monday probably won’t help with that.

ha ha when my husband has days off I never seem to get things done either!

Sounds like a fun weekend you’ve got planned! There’s a local festival at the town square in Rockville so we’ll probably take advantage of that tomorrow. And the food you’ve got planed looks delicious!

I picked up some new swimsuit tops and bottoms from Athleta too! Love how they can mix and match! We are busy working a big event in South Beach this weekend so I am looking forward to some good seafood!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/26/2017 at 3:45 pm

I really like the fit of the Athleta suits for our age women (you know fit and fabulous!) Have fun in South Beach

We talked about pulled pork sandwiches and beans of course! I love the bikini! I use Elta sunscreen from the dermatologist. I have a separate tube I use for our faces and I love it because it’s not as thick as most sunscreens that have zinc. Hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/26/2017 at 3:45 pm

I will check out that sunscreen too I don’t know of it. I hate how some of it feels on my face

I’m marinading shrimp this year, like I did for the Buffett tailgate last year. They were really popular, and I think my family will like them too. It’s a light, citrus marinade with a splash of tequila.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/26/2017 at 4:21 pm

My family all loves shrimp and they would also love that marinade. Have a great weekend

I was at the Gap Outlet last week and they had Athleta swim separates for $9.99!
We are going to a parade and cookout on Monday. That blueberry tea looks so good and refreshing! Have a fun weekend

Thanks for reminding me about sunscreen. I haven’t been wearing any yet but I have a long run tomorrow (18 miles) and I know I need to lather up since I’ll be out for a while. Now, will the sun be out, too? It’s anyone’s guess in these parts…

    Have a great weekend!!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/26/2017 at 5:09 pm

yes I was really bad at sunscreen and now I have some little spots that have had to be taken off. I am trying to be better with it

    05/26/2017 at 6:48 pm

We’re actually going to have decent weather for the weekend. Usually it’s too hot to do anything outside, so this will be a nice change. That’s a beautiful bathing suit. I haven’t bought one for years and I dread the idea of shopping for one.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/26/2017 at 7:02 pm

Well I would not say shopping for bathing suits is ever fun!

  19. Farrah says

  23. Mary @ Fit and Fed says

Vegan bourbon baked beans: I’ve made those too! And they are very good. I’m quite tempted by your iced tea with the blueberry/cranberry ice cubes, I’ll have to try it while we have some heat here. Yes, we’re all very excited here in Seattle. After breaking the record for winter rain, we’re now starting a hot, sunny streak– actually the first Memorial Day weekend without rain in the last fifteen years!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/27/2017 at 3:12 pm

Well I think we must have gotten your cool rainy weather this weekend unfortunately
