Weekly Run Down

Those miles are not going to run themselves…weekly run down

Thanks for joining the weekly run down with me and Kim. Summer decided to give us a reminder this week that she is still hanging on. Our heat and humidity are back. However, those half marathon miles are not going to run themselves are they? I was determined to get them done this week. Let’s see how it went.

Those miles are not going to run themselves

Monday- modified rest day + barre and stretch

I will spare you all the travel drama but it took me 11 hours to get home yesterday from Salt Lake City. After delayed and canceled flights, I finally arrived in DC at 1 am. This also included a sprint through the Chicago airport with luggage in tow to make a tight connection. This is why it pays to be a runner. I was pretty tired today so I just did a barre and stretch class.

those miles are not going to run themselves

Tuesday- 5.5 mile run + barre + stretch

Back to the heat and humidity today! Summer is not over. However, those miles are not going to run themselves. I took a few extra walk breaks but got it done today.

Did you catch the reel that Wendy and I did together?

Wednesday- Upper + Lower Body strength + barre + Peloton cycle

I was anxious to get back to my regular schedule and hit up some of the special all for one music classes. Mission accomplished!

those miles are not going to run themselves

Thursday-4 mile run + stretch + SUP fun

My running buddy joined me last minute for this run and it made all the difference. I was really struggling with the humidity and heat and had to take a number of walk breaks. But, those miles are not going to run themselves.

weekly run down

Check off another item on my summer bucket list! We got in a quick SUP sesh on the Potomac River. It was surprisingly quite choppy out there. We will need a redo soon.

Friday- Upper body + core + barre + stretch

I did a shorter less intense workout today and skipped the lower body as I plan to do my long run on Saturday this week. No excuses!

Saturday 10 mile run + stretch

I had 9 miles on my plan but I figured might as well, so 10 it was. The last 2 miles were not pretty and involved a lot of walk breaks. Psychologically, I just needed to do it. Summer running has a way of draining your confidence and I am looking for a return of mine.

weekly run down

I pretty much laid around the rest of the day reading by the pool. I was pooped! 5 weeks until my half marathon.

Sunday- Rest day + stretch/barre

That’s my week of running and fitness. Those miles are not going to run themselves!

I agree. Friends make all the difference.

Yay. For the SUP. I need to get out again.

Yes. Sumer long runs are a challenge but you feel so good when they are done. Our weather has cooled down but still humid. More hot weather on the way.

I am so ready for fall weather!

After a short reprieve (of sorts), our heat & humidity returned this weekend as well. I don’t mind it as much as everyone else, but yesterday’s 8-miler left me a sweaty mess…and that was early in the morning! Great job knocking out that 10-miler!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/28/2022 at 7:53 am

Thanks I am glad I got it done psychologically it was just what I needed

Ugh, on such a long trip home. Good job on just getting it done, and for running a bonus mile on Saturday as a confidence booster!

I haven’t SUP’ed in several years and need to change that!

    Have a great week!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/28/2022 at 7:54 am

thanks it was a hectic week for sure but ended on a high note

  4. Melissa says

Good job keeping at it, despite the heat and humidity. Soon I’ll be complaining about the snow, cold and ice and jealous of your weather!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/28/2022 at 7:54 am

YOu will never hear me complain about cold weather!

  5. Marcia says

    08/28/2022 at 6:32 am

Sorry your trip home was such a mess. Air travel is so dicey these days. If you got a 10 miler under your belt 5 weeks before your half, you’re going to be fine!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/28/2022 at 7:55 am

Thanks I have a long way to go the next few weeks but feeling better

  6. Coco says

    08/28/2022 at 7:58 am

When I was talking about my pleasant running at the beach, I forgot to mention that it was 2-3 miles. 10 in this weather is brutal!

You were SUP-ing right outside my office — if I’d been there. Let me know when you try again!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/28/2022 at 12:44 pm

I knew you were at the beach which was why I did not tell you but yes I will. Yes, 10 was brutal but I am optimistic for next weekend being way cooler

  7. Jenny says

    08/28/2022 at 8:40 am

Congrats on the 10 miler! Yes, the heat and humidity really make it hard. It must have been a great confidence-booster to get that done.
That travel day sounds hideous. I didn’t have any delays getting home from Texas, but it still felt like it took all day (not eleven hours though!) You have done a LOT of traveling lately! Must feel good to be home.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/28/2022 at 12:45 pm

WE have done a ton of travel so it’s nice to be home for a few weeks. Yes, I needed the confidence boost of the 10 miles now to work from there

  8. Chocolaterunsjudy says

    08/28/2022 at 9:01 am

Glad your 10 miler boosted your confidence! Summer running is hard, no doubt about it.

Sorry about the long trip home. We actually had to stay in the airport overnight at SLC when we went to UT — that wasn’t a whole lot of fun either, but far less exhausting. And yes, I’ve had to spring with luggage in tow a few times — that’ll get your HR up, LOL!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/28/2022 at 12:46 pm

ha yes it will especially with the luggage in tow!

  9. Cari says

    08/28/2022 at 9:58 am

Oh but wouldn’t it be fun if they could run themselves. Way to get them done. Especially yesterday’s bonus miles. Love your SUP shorts and glad you were able to squeeze that in from your bucket list.
What always makes me laugh about airport sprints is that’s the moment the suitcase wheels decide they are not going in their your direction

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/28/2022 at 12:46 pm

ha ha yes, it is an extra challenge w the luggage and the oblivious by standers

  10. Kim G says

    08/28/2022 at 11:50 am

Sorry about the airport drama 🙂 Almost everyone I know that has traveled this summer has run into delays or cancelations at the airport. I really hope the airlines get a better handle on this before the holiday travel season!

Awesome job on that 10 miler! I know the summer heat and humidity makes running so difficult.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/28/2022 at 12:47 pm

It was a lot of drama however, for all the traveling we have done we have been kind of lucky

  11. Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says

    08/28/2022 at 8:45 pm

The humidity… ugh! Sounds like a crazy day of travel back home. I was shocked we made it back home from Hawaii with no flight problems, and we had two connecting flights on the way home. Great job getting those 10 miles done!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/29/2022 at 7:48 am

traveling this summer has been dicey for sure!

  12. Jenn says

    08/30/2022 at 3:44 pm

Summer running has definitely destroyed my confidence. Especially this summer. Sheesh.

I’m sorry you had such a nightmare travel day! That’s stressful.

And yay for getting out on the water! So fun!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/31/2022 at 7:21 am

Yes it has been a challenging few weeks for running

  13. Liz Dexter says

    08/31/2022 at 10:55 am

It’s got cooler here so I got my usual miles in last week, but my friends are a bit up and down so a fair bit of solo running or weird schedules. Oh well, mustn’t grumble and at least I’m not training for anything!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/31/2022 at 11:40 am

I am glad you are back up to getting more miles in, I may keep grumbling for a while 🙂

  14. Michele Heller says

    09/01/2022 at 8:45 am

Airlines these days, I tell you. Sorry it was such a brutal travel day, but you still got up and did something which is great. And great job on the 10-miler. In that humidy? I think you are ready for the half.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/01/2022 at 11:18 am

      thanks I am getting there!
