Thanks for joining Kim and me for the Weekly Run Down today. This week we headed or New York City for a wedding and some adventure. So, I will be eating and running my way through the big apple. Here’s a peek into my week.

Eating and running my way through the big apple

Monday- Full body strength + core + Peloton cycle

Starting the last week of the summer core challenge with Matty from Peloton. Got in a great full body strength workout and Peloton rides.

eating and running NYC

Tuesday- Run + core + stretch

Got in a quick run with my squad before heading out to the train station. It’s about a 3 hour ride from DC to NYC. Arrived in time for dinner with some friends.

big apple

Wednesday- Hotel workout Cycle + core + stretch

Happy day when you discover a Peloton in your hotel gym. I got in a quick cycle class and core class. Disappointed that the Peloton studio is not open for classes again yet.

Had a nice lunch with our friend Cari. It was great to see her after so long! Spent the next couple of hours strolling up and down 5th Avenue and doing some window shopping.

On Wednesdays we wear pink

Thursday- NYC Running tour 10+ miles + tour 9-11 Memorial

I had a blast doing another run tour with City Running Tours over the Brooklyn Bridge and back through Washington Square Park. They have both group and individual tours available. I did a solo run today with a fantastic guide who kept me moving!

ultimate coffee date

I next enjoyed some fabulous NY Pizza and John’s in the village. Definitely eating and running my way through the big apple today! Tomorrow I need to get my hands on a good bagel.

eating and running

Next, we walked over to the 9-11 memorial to do the tour. Seemed very fitting with the 20th anniversary coming next week. It was a really well done exhibit and very emotional. I did not take any photos. If you are visiting, I highly recommend doing the tour.

Friday- 10 m yoga + 10 min stretch + walking

Giving myself a little recovery from yesterday’s 10+ miles. No real exercise except for short yoga and stretch. We did again log lots of walking miles in between eating again. Ha! We also moved to the hotel in Brooklyn where the wedding is. It’s a new to me area to explore. Looking forward to running in the morning along the water.
Saturday- 4 mile run

A slow and way recovery run with lots of photo stops.

Another afternoon of walking around and eating pizza. We attended a wedding which was the reason we came up to NYC. A really nice time. My feet are not happy in heels anymore!

Sunday-morning walk and stretch

Heading home today after an amazing week IG of eating and running my way through NYC

A wonderful way to explore the city. The photos are very beautiful and pizza looks delicious.
During my trips abroad I have never joined a running tour but I am sure that it’s very interesting. I have always run solo or with some local friend who “illustrated” to me the cities.
    Have a safe trip.

Looks like you had beautiful weather for your trip! I’ve been to NYC but wasn’t a runner back then. Believe it or not, I have a photo of my sister and me on top of the WTC. I’d love to visit again, but you know that Chicago has my heart, lol.

Glad you had so much fun!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/05/2021 at 8:07 am

yes, heels are not my friend anymore at all. it was a great few days of fitting it all in. Ready to head home exhausted

Hah did not even think about On Wednesdays… which is hysterical because a former colleague and I used to end up in that conversation about pinks at least once a month.
So great to see you and glad you enjoyed my city. Oddly, I had a dream about pizza. I guess my body is wanting some? Safe home and hope to see you soon. Overdue for a DC trip!

Not long after we moved here, my husband had a conference in NYC — I got to spend a whole week there, too! I’ve been many times (although not as much since we moved here) but a whole week was amazing!

Sounds like it was a great time.

It sounds like you had a wonderful time in NYC! I love the dress that you wore to the wedding! We visited the outdoor 911 memorial a few years ago when we were visiting our son and d-i-l and planned to visit the indoor museum on another visit, but they moved back to Virginia before we had a chance. You and Cari look great in your pick!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/05/2021 at 9:53 am

Thanks we did have a fun few days. I highly recommend the indoor museum next time you are here. It’s very moving and very well done

Oh, it looks so fun! And the weather looks amazing- all that blue sky. A ten mile run tour through NYC sounds like a dream run. Enjoy all the food! One weekend wouldn’t be enough for me to eat everything I wanted, ha ha.

I haven’t been to NYC in ages – boy do I miss it! Looks like you had a great trip, and seeing Cari was a wonderful bonus. The 9-11 memorial is quite something, isn’t it? I couldn’t bring myself to visit the museum – we were living in NYC on 9/11 and I just wasn’t ready to re-live it, but I do want to see it at some point.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/05/2021 at 6:58 pm

I did not know that you lived there then. It’s pretty intense and emotional to visit but I am glad that we did this time.

I love the dress you wore for the wedding! Both you and your husband look great!

Looks like you had an amazing time in NYC and glad that you were able to do a running tour and eat yummy food! I still haven’t gone to the 9/11 Memorial but I’ve heard it’s very powerful and emotional. Hopefully one day I will be able to go but I’m just not mentally ready to go yet.

Thanks we did have a great time. It was for sure emotional and very intense to tour the monument and museum but I am glad that we did. I can’t believe it’s been 20 years
