Weekly Run Down Recovery Week

Thanks for joining Kim and me for the Weekly Run Down. We are really enjoying connecting with so many new friends and supporting them along the way on their fitness and running journeys. This week was all about recovery for me. I did not realize how much I really needed a few days of less activity until I took them. I am glad I did. Here’s my Weekly Run Down Recovery Week.

Weekly Run Down Recovery Week

Monday- 15 min elliptical + stretching and abs 60 min

Skipped my morning Peloton classes and opted for a few minutes on the elliptical to loosen up. Did some stretching and abs.

Tuesday- 1 hour hot yoga sculpt class

A fun combo of hot yoga and some light strength training. I took it pretty easy with very light weights and lots of stretching.

weekly run down recovery week

Wednesday-90 min of kickboxing and strength training

Finally feeling back to myself and ready for a hard workout. Did not really like my photo from the workout so did not post it. Crazy huh?! Did it really happen? Yes promise 🙂 Also got a fabulous massage which was just what I needed.

Thursday- 1 hour yoga and body rolling class

A unique combo of yoga and body rolling with different sized and density therapy balls. Hurts so good. I have similar equipment at home but rarely take the chance to use them.

recovery week

Friday- cycling 20 miles

First day on the outdoor bike this season. Felt amazing to get out there and log some miles. I was pretty happy with my pace as well.

weekly run down recovery week

Saturday- 5 mile run ( 6 min run: 30 sec walk intervals)

First run all week! I have a new plan that Jessie @TheRightfits helped me come up with. Excited to start my Ragnar training and work on reducing my intervals. I must say that 30 seconds of walking feels a lot less than 60 seconds of walking!

That’s my Weekly Run Down!

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

I am taking a week off post marathon and it has been delightful! I really did need it and can’t wait to jump back into things next week!

That is super smart! Enjoy your rest

I need to be more like you and Kim and do more of a variety of activities. You mentioned Ragnar? Which one?

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/14/2019 at 2:28 pm

I love my cross training days. I wish I could run more often but my body just does not cooperate with that. We are doing Ragnar Niagara falls May 30

Recovery was paramount for me this week as well. UGH. I’m not good at being inactive, but it came rather easy this week LOL

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/14/2019 at 2:31 pm

I feel much better having taken it easy a bit this week. My body sure needed it!

Great work all week! I love the idea of the balls being used in a class like that. I do like my spiky ball …

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/14/2019 at 2:32 pm

I have a bunch of the diff sized balls at home too but honestly do not use them on my own. Felt really great!

    04/14/2019 at 12:55 pm

I always enjoy reading about your variety of fitness activities – stretching, abs, running, biking, yoga, elliptical, body rolling. Whew! And you call this a recovery week? That body rolling class is interesting. I don’t think we have any classes near me. It sounds like something I should try.

I changed my walking intervals from a minute to 30 seconds because I found that a whole minute of walking just slowed me down too much — yup, it goes by quickly.

I don’t subscribe to the if there’s no photo it didn’t happen philosophy. However, I will also admit I wasn’t really happy with the yoga photo I posted to IG, but I did it anyway!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/14/2019 at 2:36 pm

I liked your yoga photo! Yes the 30 seconds does go by so much faster than a minute. I am going to stick to it for this week as well.

You were smart to listen to your body and cut your workouts back a bit. I’ve yet to get outside on my bike. Bill went on two group rides this weekend, both on gravel. Yesterday’s was really hilly so there’s no way I could have kept up, but today’s was a no-drop and less hilly ride and he said I would have been fine.

    Thanks for the linkup!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/14/2019 at 2:41 pm

You know I forgot how much I do love biking outside! We will have to meet up again this summer

  8. Wendy says

    04/14/2019 at 1:33 pm

I made the decision after yesterday’s race that I have to get rid of those intervals. While they’re letting me get my distance in, they are doing nothing for my endurance and speed. Let me know what you learn!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/14/2019 at 2:45 pm

I have been torn w the intervals! They do allow you to get back distance but yes I feel like I have lost endurance and speed. I have a new plan in place where I am hoping to eliminate them in a few weeks. I will keep you posted! I also think a lot of my current issues are psychological but that is a much longer discussion!

  9. Coco says

    04/14/2019 at 1:35 pm

That therapy ball class sounds like something I need, but would need someone to lead me through/make me do! Would love to get you to join me on the Conte’s Arlington ride, but it would be kind of weird to ride past your own house 6 miles in. 😉

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/14/2019 at 2:50 pm

It was weird to ride past my house on the Contes Falls Church ride. I was so happy to get back onto my bike and forgot how much I love it. I will join you on the Arlington ride after Ragnar! It’s a date 🙂

  10. Marcia says

    04/14/2019 at 1:37 pm

I’m jelly of your outdoor greenery and your bike ride. With all the friggin’ snow we’re getting today, it seems like true spring will never arrive here.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/14/2019 at 2:53 pm

I can’t believe you have snow today. It is so humid and 70 degrees out which is unusually warm for us. Hang in and you will soon be complaining about the summer heat again 🙂

    04/14/2019 at 3:32 pm

Ragnar training plan? Fun!! Niagara should be really pretty. I went out on my bike for the first time this season on Saturday. It felt so awesome!! I can’t wait to get back into regular biking again. I have really missed the feeling of freedom that I get from it.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/14/2019 at 3:44 pm

Yes I have really missed being outside on my bike there is something so freeing about it

  12. Kim G says

Sounds like a recovery week is just what you needed. You were still pretty active even though it was a recovery week for you.

Also love that you’re working with Jessie – she’s so sweet!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/14/2019 at 5:08 pm

Yes I stayed active for sure but kept it low impact which helped. I was a lot more tired that I realized. Yes I am excited to work w Jessie will keep you all posted of course 🙂

This was also a recovery week for me. Those therapy balls look cool – I’ve tried the hyper ice ball and really liked it.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/14/2019 at 5:12 pm

The therapy balls are good and I have to remember to use them on my own as well. I know I have a few sitting in my gym somewhere.

  14. Jenn says

    04/14/2019 at 5:13 pm

    Awesome job, as always!

I love that yoga picture, and I really need to get myself in the right head space to try cycling with friends. I think it would be a good change fo rme.

I’m still down for all my miles, but it’s nice to mix things up.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/14/2019 at 5:18 pm

It is fantastic to mix it up. I am used to training for tri races in the spring so biking is always fun for me. It is such great cross training for runners!

  15. Michelle @ Running with Attitude says

    04/14/2019 at 5:53 pm

Sounds like a good week of recovery – a great variety of activities!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/14/2019 at 6:06 pm

Yes we are doing Ragnar Niagara Falls end of May. Very excited. We need to plan a Ragnar for all the blogger friends wouldn’t that be fun?!
