Weekly Wrap A Little Rest And Recovery

This week totally flew by and I cannot believe it’s been a week already since all the adventures in Chicago. I was pretty exhausted when I returned from the traveling, getting up so early for the races both days, actually running the races and of course all that chatter. I knew this was a good week for a Little Rest And Recovery.

Table of Contents

  • A Little Rest And Recovery
    • Monday- 60 strength training
    • Tuesday-60 min Vinyasa yoga class
    • Wednesday- 90 min strength training and kickboxing
    • Thursday- 45 min cycle bar class + 1 hour at Curves
    • Friday-30 min elliptical + 2 mile walk
    • Saturday-Rest Day
    • Sunday-on the plan 5 mile run
  • Anyone else find themselves getting lost in Bed Bath and Beyond for hours? That’s a wrap on my week of a little rest and recovery.

A Little Rest And Recovery

As I mentioned in my Runfessions post, my achilles was not happy with me and was begging for a rest. My trainer and I “agreed” that this was a good week for a little rest and recovery. I planned to take a week off of running to let things heal up while doing some other cross training.

Monday- 60 strength training

I woke up exhausted! Did 60 min of strength training all upper body and abs.

Tuesday-60 min Vinyasa yoga class

Since I was not doing my usual run today, I was able to hit up one of favorite Vinyasa yoga classes. My body always thanks me after that class.

A little rest and recovery

Wednesday- 90 min strength training and kickboxing

Feeling like I had my energy back finally and ready for a good sweaty workout.

Thursday- 45 min cycle bar class + 1 hour at Curves

Felt great to get back to a cycle bar class after riding outside the last few months. We have had so much rain lately that an inside class was the place to be. That evening, the local Curves hosted our running group for a strength training session. Stay tuned for my full review coming Wednesday.

A little rest and recovery

Friday-30 min elliptical + 2 mile walk

Just was not feeling my swim class this week so instead took myself on a nice walk. I planned it so I could grab an iced tea at Panera along the way to cool me off. Note to self: a 2 mile walk takes much longer than a 2 mile run.

Saturday-Rest Day

Does power shopping my way through Bed Bath and Beyond to buy all the college gear count as cross training? I would say yes! 2 hours I kid you not. I am nothing if not thorough. 🙂

Sunday-on the plan 5 mile run

Looking forward to getting back at it and fingers crossed my achilles cooperates.

Anyone else find themselves getting lost in Bed Bath and Beyond for hours? That’s a wrap on my week of a little rest and recovery.

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

When the first daughter went off to college (ugh…back in 2012), her and I spent a long time in that very store! Oh gosh…all kinds of dorm room essentials to be found (and maybe a thing or three for Mom, too). I anticipate a repeat endeavor with the other daughter soon….

It’s crazy how much stuff you can find in there that you never knew you “needed” 🙂

Glad you had a good week of rest and recovery! Sounds like it was smart to take a break from running to let your achilles rest.

      I think so thanks!

You can rack up a lot of steps shopping! Seriously! It’s been a long time since I’ve been to BBB, but I don’t have a kid going off to college. 🙂

Hope your achilles is feeling better!

I found a few things for myself there too-it’s a dangerous place (in a good way). Achilles felt better today but not all the way better

Um, that’s your rest and recovery week? Holy cow, I think our definitions may be a little different. LOL! Looks like you had a great week though! And I just spent an hour in BB&B the other day and all I was doing was buying a new comforter for my bed. ha! (to be fair, I was trying to make sure I picked one out that my husband would like too since he’s in a whole different state and was unable to respond to all my photos. haha. Of course, I picked one that’s the exact same color as the other one – it’s just cotton instead of down. And it took me an hour to do that. Good grief.)

That place just sucks you in! I found so much stuff that I could enjoy having around. Thank goodness for the coupons they let you use!

Looks like you got a great week of alternative workouts in for sure! I get lost in Target and somehow come out with hundreds of dollars worth of stuff I don’t really need.

      07/29/2018 at 7:09 pm

OH you are not the only one! It is fun to do though sometimes 🙂

Sounds like a lovely week of a bit of rest and recovery! Sounds like it was just what you needed.

      I think it was!

I love BBB. I always say I go there to find what I don’t (yet) know I need! We did our college shopping there too — was able to check off most of our list. I sure hope your achilles is better.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/29/2018 at 8:44 pm

I love it there too for me as well! It is feeling better but not all the way better

It’s amazing how fast the week has gone. How did the rest go, with your achilles’?

    • Deborah Brooks says

      It’s getting there!!

  9. Marcia says

    07/29/2018 at 8:06 pm

I won’t even tell you how long I spend in BB&B. Omg the heavy bags that come out of there, it’s ridiculous! lol! I feel the same way about walking. It takes so looong! :p

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/29/2018 at 8:45 pm

I feel like the BBB shopping counts as extra strength training 🙂

  10. Wendy says

    07/29/2018 at 8:56 pm

I tend to get lost in BBand B too. Which is why I don’t go! I’ve been buying all my son’s dorm stuff on Kohls. I keep getting all this Kohl’s cash and coupons, so it’s been working out well.

    Nice week of recovery.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/30/2018 at 7:23 am

It’s crazy how much “stuff” they can pile into one dorm room! So much easier for boys though bc my son could care less what his color scheme is LOL

  11. AmyC says

    07/30/2018 at 1:12 am

I had to giggle at “a 2 mile walk takes much longer than a 2 mile run” because I know exactly what you mean 😉 It’s a shock when you mostly only lace up to run!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/30/2018 at 7:24 am

yes it is but surprisingly, I am enjoying the walks and I plan to keep them up as well. Now to just fit it all in!

I like Bed Baath and Beyond but I do not think I have ever spend 2 hrs there. Have you seen that movie “I Feel Pretty” she falls off her bike at cycle bar. It is hilarious. We do not have any specialty gyms like that in our area.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/30/2018 at 7:30 am

ha no I have not seen that movie yet but I was thinking of downloading it for a flight this week.

You had a very busy rest and recovery week!

Bed Bath and Beyond is the go-to place for all things college! I worked there all through high school and this time of the year was always so busy for us – more so than Thanksgiving and Christmas!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/30/2018 at 7:38 am

I bet it was! It’s amazing how much stuff you can find there that you never knew you “needed” 🙂

  14. Teresa says

A well deserved rest week, no doubt! I really want to try out a Cycle Bar class …how is it different than a normal spin class?

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/30/2018 at 5:18 pm

It is similar to a normal class although they do have short segment with weights. They also are known for the dark room with the strobe lights

Your Bed & Bath is my Target especially since we just got one that’s super convenient. I swear it has a magnet in it.

It sounds like you had a great week of rest of recovery, but still got some good workouts in.

I love Bed Bath & Beyond and spent a LONG time in there with my son after he bought his condo.

    • Deborah Brooks says

It sure is easy to get lost in there!

  17. Hannah says

I hope your run went well! I can’t spend much time in BB&B personally because it just feels too chaotic to me – our local store has too much merchandise stuffed into a small building.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/31/2018 at 11:11 am

      It sure can be chaotic!

Great work and hope the achilles has thanked you for your kindness to it. We don’t have Bed, Bath and Beyond but I can use up hours in Ikea myself …

    • Deborah Brooks says

I haven’t been in a Bed, Bath, and Beyond in years (even though there’s one right down the road!). But I do remember getting lost in them for hours. 🙂 It sounds like you had a good recovery week from Chicago.
