Hi everyone! Jumping in today to another edition of the Weekly Wrap with Hoho and Wendy. This week was all about physical therapy and yoga. In fact, I have found myself on a little yoga streak this week. Wasn’t planned, just kind of happened and I am loving it. Here’s a snap shot of my week.

Weekly Wrap Yoga Streak

Sunday- 5 mile run + Vinyasa yoga

Achilles area annoying me during my run and had to take a few walk breaks to stretch it out. Day 2 of my yoga streak. Love yoga on the same day as a run.

Monday- 30 min elliptical + 60 m strength training + hot yoga class

After missing my workouts last week with travel, felt good to get back to my strength training.

Tuesday- 4 mile run + Vinyasa yoga 60 m + PT evaluation

Finished our run right ahead of some huge storms. Had to walk quite a bit because of my achilles. Did a full evaluation with the PT to get an official diagnosis on the achilles strain. It is minor but I have work to do. I can keep running yay! I will start doing 4:1 intervals.

Wednesday-30 m soft tissue work at PT + strength training + restorative yoga

Busy day! Had my torture session for my calf with the sports massage therapist in the morning then Strength training. Since my hubs was out that night, I hit up a restorative yoga class. The yoga streak continues!

Thursday- 4 mile run + Vinyasa yoga

Per the PT, started using 4:1 intervals and my run went so much better. No real pain in the achilles=happy runner girl. It did not hurt that we had the most gorgeous running day with cool temps and low humidity. Fall-I am coming for you. I am also loving my new Shady Rays glasses. I received a pair to try out from my association with Bib Rave. See my review here.

Friday- Physical therapy + soft tissue massage of calf + 2 mile walk

Sort of a day off. Did a full run evaluation with the PT including video analysis. Seeing myself run in slow motion on a treadmill was not pretty. I can really see why my calf is so tight. I will be sharing more about what I learned and how I am going to address it in a few weeks. I left with a schedule of exercises to do. I need to fire up those Glutes of mine ASAP.

Saturday- 4.5 mile run + Yoga stretch class

Happy to have had a pain free run today for the first time in ages. The intervals seem to really help so I will keep doing those. The yoga streak continued with a post run Yoga stretch class. Kind of liking all of this yoga!

Sunday- on the plan swimming and yoga of course

Tomorrow’s Meatless Monday is a Sweet & Spicy Apple Jicama Slaw. Come back and check it out.

I will be sharing more about what I’ve learned during this Yoga Streak soon. I am pretty sure it’s helping my running feel better. Have you ever done a yoga streak?

I have never done a Yoga Streak but my sisters coach started her on a yoga routine for her gymnastics training! She is really loving it as a relaxing workout on her rest days!

It can be really relaxing for sure glad she is enjoying it

Oh gosh…I could really benefit from a yoga streak! I just have a tough time committing to doing it…I am always on the go, it’s hard to slow down and and relax. If only I had a fellow yoga person close by that would keep me accountable…hey! How about you move to Iowa?

I am loving the yoga this week. I am at 10 days now. When I get super busy, it’s the first thing to go but since I dropped the kids last week I have a lot more time on my hands. That would be fun if we could go together

I need a yoga streak! That’s one area I’ve been slacking in. I hope it helps you. Curious to hear more about what the PT is going to do for you to get that glute firing!

I am loving the yoga streak! I feel good. I have some exercises to start working on and I hope they help. I just have to really do them!

I did a yoga streak once and ended up hurting my back — doing too much too soon of course! Glad you are getting some treatment for that achilles. It seems to always be about those glutes!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/26/2018 at 7:08 pm

My back is feeling really good actually. It does always seem to be about the glutes

I’m doing a bit more for my calves to keep my ITBS at bay. My calf felt quite tired during my run yesterday, and I’ll admit, I didn’t do much on my cruise for preventative stuff.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/26/2018 at 7:09 pm

I really have to keep up with it so it does not get worse while I am away

I’m going to take a page out of your book when it comes to yoga. You’ve inspired me to do it more regularly.

Oh great! I am really enjoying it and it’s such a great post run stretch and relaxation

I like the sounds of a yoga streak – I’m sure it’s something I could benefit from!

I think I feel the difference already. I will be sharing a few observations from it this week. Have a good one!

Great variety of workouts as always! Fun to read. I need to follow your lead and get more yoga in my life 🙂

I am loving it! Not sure I can keep it up to this extent though

  9. Lisa @ Mile by Mile says

Every once in awhile I find myself doing more yoga and it feels good. I guess I just eventually stop making the time for it and I prioritize other workouts. I’ve been pretty good about doing 1 class a week other than last week which I missed.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/27/2018 at 7:20 am

I never did it while I was pregnant but I wish I had. It was not so mainstream back then

Nice job on the yoga streak! It’s wonderful you are able to run while rehabbing your Achilles. I often take a short video at the end of my run just for the sake of a running picture. Watching them has been eye opening. I can see the problems with my form. Like…my hip dropping (you know, the one that is cranky all the time?) and am now consciously working on that during my runs. Hope the empty nest is not feeling too empty. 😉 Thanks for linking!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/27/2018 at 7:24 am

I was really surprised by how much my hip drops! I hope I can make some positive changes to help w the long term health. House is empty but I am hanging in. Hope you are too!

    08/27/2018 at 7:31 am

What can I say? I really do love my intervals & they got me through 18 miles! It’s good to have a dx though & even better that you can keep running!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/27/2018 at 8:48 am

I forgot that you had been doing intervals as well. They do seem to help me as well so maybe it’s something I keep up

  12. Darlene says

    08/27/2018 at 9:35 am

No and it sounds very useful.

I just can’t get motivated without a class and I don’t have time for classes. Some day….

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/27/2018 at 11:49 am

I do like a class for yoga as well but as you say, it does take time

  13. Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says

    08/27/2018 at 1:46 pm

I haven’t done a yoga streak in ages but I think my body is craving some yoga – after running a 10K yesterday I’m feeling super tight!

So glad that you can still run with intervals while working on your Achilles!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/27/2018 at 4:57 pm

The yoga really helps to stretch out the arches in my feet as well. When I had bad PF, it helped a lot

The pants in the first photo look very yoga ish in their pattern.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      ha I guess they do!

  15. Liz Dexter says

I’m working on my glutes at the moment too so will be interested to see what you’ve been given to do.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/28/2018 at 3:21 pm

Yes we will have to compare notes. It’s not easy is it!?

  16. Debbie @ Deb Runs says

I’m so happy for you that you can continue running as you heal. That’s what we runners always want to hear!

OH it sure is! I am feeling a lot better already
